2023-2024 Baseball Season Preview
The 2023-2024 baseball season is going to be a tough year for the Trojans. We lost a lot of good seniors last year. There will be a lot of rebuilding this season. We will have to work a lot harder this year in practice and in games to be successful and hopefully make it far in the postseason. We are 5 returning varsity players for this 2024 baseball season. We only have 2 returning seniors from last year’s team.
Coach Dylan Goodell was asked to describe certain aspects of the 2024 baseball team. Goodell was asked the following question: “How is the dynamic different with the seniors gone?” Goodell responded: “The seniors we graduated off last year had a lot of baseball games underneath their belts. There could be some growing pains early on as we try to figure out who our leaders are, but we shouldn’t be playing our best baseball in March. We’re building up for a run in May and trying to get to Manhattan for state.”
What challenges do you expect this new Trojans team to face? Goodell responded: ¨We’re a young team for the most part so relying on younger guys can always be a bit of a challenge at times. I like the confidence a lot of our players have in themselves. Confidence goes a long way in all sports but very much so when it comes to baseball because you may only get one chance to make an impact on the game.¨
What advantages does this new team have compared to previous teams? Goodell responded: ¨I really like the pitching depth we have this year. We pretty much only lost one arm off of last year’s team. I also think we can play more small ball in years past. We don’t have the extra base hitters like we’ve had the last several years but I hope that leads to putting the ball in play more and putting pressure on opposing defenses.¨
Are there any teams in the league that we should keep our eyes on? Goodell responded:¨Sacred Heart and Ellsworth will be very quality teams. Both teams have pretty strong number-one pitchers so it’ll be a great opportunity to challenge ourselves as we ramp up for regionals.¨
