Southeast of Saline High School and junior high students enjoyed a delightful evening at the Boot Scootin’ Boogie event. On September 7, the FFA hosted a country dance that attracted around 30 students, along with many adults in the community. This event serves as a fundraiser to support FFA activities throughout the year.
Sheila Klover, the Activities Secretary, performed with her band and led the students in learning various dances, including line dancing, two-stepping, and swing dancing.
The evening began with everyone gathering on the dance floor, where Casson Klover, Scarlett McQuillan, Kiki Reidel, and Sheila Klover demonstrated the “Copperhead Road” line dance, which turned out to be the simplest of the night. Next, Scarlett taught the “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” line dance. After that, the group moved on to Footloose, which Piper Brown and Casson Klover taught. This dance proved more challenging due to its complex steps and fast tempo. Although it took some time for everyone to master the moves, participants eventually caught on and enjoyed the experience.
We asked Mrs. Petty how much money was raised through donations and how it would be used. She replied with “We made between $300 and $400”. When asked about what was done with the money raised from the event, FFA sponsor Mrs. Petty stated “The funds will help pay for a portion of the band and the snacks”. We also asked several students about their favorite songs played. Junior, Kiki Riedel said her favorite song of the night was “Probably, Boot Scootin Boogie. It was fun because it’s a quick, upbeat song.”. Sophomore, Casson Klover added, “A lot of the swing dancing songs were great. I enjoyed learning and teaching others how to dance.” Regan Duran also said, “Obviously, ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” Finally, we asked if she plans to perform again with her band this time next years, Sheila Klover responded with, “Absolutely! It’s one of my favorite things to do!”.
