This year, Southeast of Saline welcomed four new students to the upperclassman roster: Jacob Tonne, Carlee Dye, Mady Disney, and Eli Jennings.
Jacob Tonne is a senior this year. He was previously homeschooled for nine years. He has two brothers, Ethan and Caleb, in 8th and 5th grade. Tonne is involved in cross country and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). During the spring, he will compete on the track team.
For four years, Tonne has been encouraged by the SES cross country team to come to Southeast. He finally agreed to join the team for his senior year, an incredibly last minute decision. Tonne had never met Coach Caselman, but had trained during the running off-seasons with a majority of the members of the Southeast team.
So far, Jacob enjoys going to school at SES. He likes that the classes are easy, his classmates and teachers are nice, and that he knows almost everyone. His favorite class is Government because he enjoys having Mr. Baird as a teacher.
When asked about a fact that he wants to be known about him, Tonne said, “I think Chick-Fil-A is the best restaurant out there.”
Carlee Dye is a junior this year. She previously went to school at Salina South High School. She has an older sister and a younger brother. Carlee is currently involved in volleyball and plans to play softball in the spring.
Carlee decided that she wanted to come to Southeast this year because she felt that it would be a better fit for her than South. Changing schools wasn’t as daunting as it could’ve been because Carlee already had many friends at SES. She didn’t enjoy the environment at South and wanted to try out something different. Her favorite class is English because she has lots of friends in that class.
A fun fact about Carlee is that she is very patriotic. In fact, she is so patriotic that she sometimes cries tears of joy when she hears the national anthem being played.
Mady Disney is also a junior this year. Along with Carlee, she previously went to Salina South High School. Mady currently plays the active roles of both middle and right side on the volleyball team.
Mady made the choice to transfer to Southeast this year because she wanted a change of environment. She also had many friends at Southeast, so the adjustment wasn’t very hard. So far, she enjoys how the people at Southeast are friendly and welcoming. Her favorite class so far is English because she enjoys seeing her friends during class.
When asked about a fun fact that Mady would like people to know about her, she responded with “I am a distant relative of Walt Disney.”
Eli Jennings is a junior this year. He previously went to Salina Central High School. He is a member of the football and track team and is planning to join the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club (FCA).
Eli chose to transfer to Southeast because he was looking for a new start and a chance to be involved in better opportunities. So far, Eli says Southeast has been welcoming and he has been enjoying every bit of his time here. His favorite classes are Mr. Baird’s Psychology and College American History classes because he likes “chirping” with Mr. Baird. A fun fact about Eli is that he is the middle child of three boys.
Southeast is excited to welcome these four new upperclassmen students to the school this year. Make sure to say stop and say hello if you see them around!
