On October 4th, Anne Hathway, who plays Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries movies, announced there will be a third movie to the series 20 years later. The movie has been rumored to be in the works since 2022 but was only confirmed this month.

Anne Hathaway announced the movie in a very unique way. She posted a TikTok with the audio of “Miracles Happen (When You Believe)” and put clips of her from the previous Princess Diaries movies. To top it off, she added the clips of her iconic line in the movies of “Shut up!” and added one of her today to give a hint that she will be returning for the third movie to be queen of Genovia once again.

The original “Princess Diaries” came out in 2001 and the “Princess Diaries the Royal Engagement” came out in 2004. These were two iconic 2000s movies that are still staples today.

Anne Hathaway started the movies when she was just 18 years old. It was her first major film role. Now she is 41 years old, and still sticking with her past, which made her the actress she is today. She has had many successful films over the years like “The Devil Wears Prada”, “Bride Wars”, and a newly released movie, “The Idea of You”. Yet, with all of this success, she still goes back to her roots and has devoted her time to continuing the legacy of Mia in the Princess Diaries.

At the end of the last movie, Princess Diaries the Royal Engagement, Mia was crowned queen of Genovia since she stood up and changed the law to allow female members to rule without a man by their side. So she opens up the Children’s Hospital, which she cares about deeply throughout the movie. After Clarisse, her grandmother, stepped down from the queen role, she got engaged to her friend Joe. Following that, Christopher declared his love for Mia at the end of the movie. So we can infer that they started dating. 

Now with the third movie coming out, there are many possibilities of where the story can go. There will be lots of change and love in Genovia and everyone is excited to see what the new movie will entail.
