On Friday, November 22nd, the SES Trojans beat the Beloit Trojans 34-30. Head coach Mitch Gebhardt leads the Trojans to their first Sub-State win since 2005. With under a minute left in the game, SES drove 79 yards with no timeouts left. With only seven seconds left, Gannon Jacobson pulled off a game-winning 24-yard throw to Kanyon Douglas. When asked about his reaction to the game-winning touchdown, Coach Gebhardt says, “Well, I looked to make sure he caught it and then I looked at the time left, and then I looked to make sure there were no flags, and then I was pretty darn excited.”
Throughout the close game, the SES Trojans never lost hope and never gave up, coming back from more than 10 points. Additionally, SES went through some challenging plays. In the third quarter, Evan Watkins’s punt was blocked inside Beloit’s endzone, setting up the Trojans in orange to take the lead. During the fourth quarter with only around two minutes left of the game, Gannon Jacobson threw an interception to the Beloit Trojans but redeemed himself by throwing the game-winning touchdown to Kanyon Douglas
Southeast of Saline will play for the State Championship on Friday, November 29th at 6:00 p.m. in Hutchinson. They will play Nemaha Central, the two-time defending state champions. When asked how the team prepares for the game, Coach Gebhardt says, “We consider every game to be just as important so that we will be preparing the same as always.”Coach Gebhardt would also like to thank everyone in the stands, the band, and the cheerleaders for their love and support.
