Recently, Southeast of Saline junior Suttyn Douglas put on a pickleball tournament in order to raise funds for prom in 2025. A pickleball fundraiser was not something that had been done before, so many people were excited to participate. The tournament had a great turnout, and people are eager for it to be done again annually.
The tournament ended up being a success with 14 pairs of doubles teams. In the end, the tournament raised over $400 for prom. The competition took place on the afternoon of November 23rd. The tournament was run with a bracket system, and competition was stiff. The majority of participants were Southeast of Saline students, with a handful of other community members playing as well.
In the championship match, the last two teams playing were Allison and Carol Moddelmog and Brody Chambers and Tanner Schroeder. After two sets, Allison and Carol came out victorious with an overall record of 5-0. Allison said, “It was fun to play with my mom because we play a lot for fun, but it was exciting to play in an actual tournament with her. Suttyn did a great job organizing the event and I’m happy the money was raised for a good cause.” The winners each got a fun gift basket filled with candy, gift cards, and other fun prizes.
Overall, the tournament was a huge success and many people are eager for it to be put on again. It was a great and fun way to raise money for prom instead of the usual fundraisers. If you see Suttyn or Allison in the hallways, make sure to tell them congratulations on a great pickleball tournament.
