On Saturday, February 22nd and Sunday, February 23rd the Southeast of Saline Drama Department performed the play, Faith County, under the direction of Mr. Terry Anderson.
The play follows the story of several southern women as they go about their normal lives filled with drama, romance, and some friendly competition. The play begins with Mildred Hayworth Carson (Kipra Reed), Ruthann Barns (Micah Willis), Naomi Farkle (Bella Owen), and Faye McFaye (Allison Moddelmog) gathering together before the annual county fair.
While Mildred and Naomi prepare their projects for the arts and crafts competition, the girls share all the town’s gossip: Faye is in love with Delbert Fink (Elizandro Figueroa), but Delbert belongs to Lottie (Olivia Swenson); Violet Carson (Kennedy Stumpf) is pregnant and approaching her due date; Naomi is angry with her boyfriend, Luther Carson (Casson Klover) because he won’t come with her to the arts and crafts competition at the fair; and Mildred and Naomi and are in a fierce competition with their entries for the arts and crafts competition this year.
After sharing the town gossip, Faye tells her friends about the poetry that she’s been writing which she plans to perform at the fair. Before she can perform it live, Faye decides to do a practice reading for her close friends. Accompanied by Gladys Pembleton (Ava Rupert) who plays the piano and Bubba Bedford (Juliana Owen) who plays the triangle, Faye gives her dramatic readings which are all about Delbert.
After Faye reads her last poem, Gladys drops dead at the piano. While other members of the town get help, Luther and Naomi get engaged and agree to get married in the exact spot where Luther proposed, which happens to be the same place where Gladys died.
A couple months later, Luther and Naomi have their wedding. Since this is a big event for the town, everyone tries to get involved. Mildred offers to sing a song before the vows, Faye decides to give another poetry reading, and Bubba plans to officiate the wedding.
As the wedding commences, Violet goes into labor. Bubba quickly finishes the ceremony, and the play concludes with the townspeople rushing Violet to the hospital to give birth.
Overall, a lot of work went into Faith County. With having to prepare for both The Invisible Dragon and Faith County, the students had to put in lots of hard work and dedication to get ready for both shows, and both shows came together nicely.
