Today, there are more than 10 million students who have been involved in FCCLA. FCCLA has 245,000 members throughout the nation this year alone. FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America. It is a leadership organization that focuses on expanding the skills of its members. These skills include goal setting, decision making, and interpersonal communications. Members can compete in events called STAR Event: Students Taking Action With Recognition (Speech-based presentations). The speeches range from 10-20 minutes and are scored by a set of judges. There are four levels when it comes to star events, these include:
Level 1 – Junior High
Level 2 – Freshman Sophomore
Level 3 – Junior Senior
Level 4 – College age
Southeast of Saline FCCLA has four teams competing at state in Wichita, Kansas. Kipra Reed and Kennedy Stumpf, who are competing in Chapter in review, are making a portfolio containing everything we do as a school chapter. Ava Rupert is competing in the Star Event “Lessons Based on Children,” where she made a report on our school’s “Trojans Together” program. Madison Givens is competing in Food Innovations, where she makes a business and a product. This year she made a healthy strawberry coconut drink. She has to stay in a certain range of calories and sugars she is allowed in her product and has to show the packaging and nutrition label at her event. The last event, which is competing in State, is Parlaw. The people on the Parlaw team are Hannah Thiel, Brooklyn Hartman, Brielle Felzien, Elizandro Figueroa, Olivia Swenson, and Kinsley Dahl. They compete in parliamentary law and hold a meeting. Each presentation typically has a speech that is combined with a physical presentation (typically a binder or a large presentation board). Madison Givens is a Kansas state officer for individual programs, and she is in charge of Star events. She will help to run State and will be on stage giving her speeches in front of everyone. Those competing at state will be judged and then be told who is competing at nationals. Nationals this year is held in Orlando, Florida, where members will compete and enjoy all the sights of Orlando. This trip will take place from July 5th to July 9th of 2025. FCCLA continues to change lives and helps students to gain lifelong skills.
