Southeast of Saline students participate in an abundance of extracurricular activities outside of school and during the summer. As the Southeast Publications class, we want to ensure that they get enough recognition. There are many different activities that students at Southeast do during the summer.
A handful of Southeast students participated in the Tri-Rivers 4-H; all the students who participated did very well. Ashley Welchel, a junior, participated in showing her two lambs and three goats. She also participated in other exhibits, including photography, food, agronomy, horticulture, and hand pets. Ashley showed her two lambs named Denver and Dallas, and her goat named Cowboy. She also showed her two breeding goats, named Vegas and Lollipop. She had two goats and one sheep in the grand drive. She also made Zucchini cupcakes that got reserved grand champion, Alfalfa flake that got grand champion, and her cat, Shadow, that got champion. Ashley got the reserved grand champion senior showman. Ashley Welchel started 4-H because she grew up around livestock, and her parents both grew up in 4-H.
SES has many people who participate in FCCLA; a group of them went to Orlando, Florida. The group of people that participated were Kennedy Stumpf, Kipra Reed, Christina Wingo (members of the 2025 graduating class), Madison Givens, Faith Swank, Jasmin Arceo, and Ava Rupert (Seniors). Included in this was one top ten placement. This year was the first year Southeast of Saline participated in the fashion show, and Jasmin Arceo walked the runway in her repurposed jean dress that she created. Kennedy and Kipra competed in a “chapter in review portfolio,” showing all the amazing things our chapter has accomplished last year. Ava Rupert showcased the “Trojans Together” program in the STAR event “Focus on Children”. This was the largest convention, with over 10,000 students from across the country in attendance. There are many other clubs at Southeast that students participate in, but they didn’t do any huge events over the summer.
Southeast of Saline has participated in numerous events over the past year, and students enjoy participating in all the extracurricular activities that the school offers outside of class. As the Publications class, we think all of the extracurricular activities should be recognized for all of their hard work.
