This school year we are so super lucky to have Suzu Kimizuka as our foreign exchange student! Suzu says, “ I did gymnastics for two years at high school in Japan. I will join cheer for the basketball season here.” She is very excited about joining the cheerleading team and started practicing with them last week! Suzu says that she will be participating in the school play this year. She says that there is more information about the clubs in Japan in her Trojournal Article, make sure to go check that out!
When interviewing Suzu I asked the question, Do you like American or Japanese high schools better? She says, “It’s hard to decide which is better, but if I had to pick one, I would choose American school already. Because there are much more kinds of choices of subjects and students can choose what they want to learn. Also, since the number of students is less, teachers take care of students more. And I like the custom that everybody is friendly and asks “How are you?” each other.
Suzu says that her favorite American foods are turkey sandwiches and burritos and granola bars. She says that she very much enjoys eating American school lunches and she is looking forward to trying many different kinds of cereal. When talking to her about this I was just thinking about how all of these foods seem normal to us however in other countries they may not have any over that!
In Japan they have different methods of getting to school. “I get to school by walk and by train. It takes about 40 minutes in total,” she says. She says that when she is in a hurry or running late she takes her bicycle to the station and they have a big lot for parking the bicycles. I have never been on a train before but it is so crazy to think that she rides one to school everyday!
