Southeast of Saline Boys Basketball State Preview : Road To a State Championship
March 9, 2023
The southeast Saline Trojans open up their state tournament against the 18-4 Perry-Lecompton kaws.
The Trojans are coming off a brilliant display in their sub-state championship victory, defeating Russel, 65-38 , and Beloit, 56-42. The Trojans have just one loss on the season coming short to class 4A’s Hugoton who is the #1 seed in their state tournament.
Southeast enters the tournament the #2 seed set to face the #7 seed Perry-Lecompton Kaws. The Kaws roll in with a respectable 19-4 record. The two teams have not faced the same opponents this year but the Trojans have had the tougher schedule statistically.
The two teams will have a fairly even size comparison as the Kaws have 4 players over 6 feet. Look for the Trojans to use their shooting weapons such as Kayson Lilley and Drew Richardson to shoot beyond the arc this game as the paint will be heavily guarded by 6 ‘3 Senior Kael Gorski and 6’ 3 Senior Gunnar Ball.
The Trojans will be the favorites for the matchup Thursday evening.
If the trojans are to advance to the next round they would either face #3 Hesston or #6 Colby . The game between Hesston and Colby should be a good one but Hesston enters as the favorite. The Trojans faced Hesston to begin their season, winning 56-46. The likely outcome will be that the Trojans will face the Swathers in the semi final matchup .
