This year, we have had a handful of new students. Two of them are in the sophomore class. Their names are Jasmin Arceo and Isabella Owen.
Jasmin originally came from Salina Central, and while she still misses her old school sometimes, she said her favorite things about Southeast are the teachers being nice and welcoming. Southeast is a lot easier to navigate compared to Central, and everyone here mostly minds their own business. Although she doesn’t generally like school, she likes Southeast. The only other thing she dislikes about Southeast is some of the people. Her favorite class is theater and her favorite teacher is the theater teacher, Mrs. Boley. She is planning on being involved in theater and track this year. A few facts about her is that her favorite food is steak and potatoes, her favorite hobby is watching horror movies, and her dream is to be a veterinarian after highschool. She has four brothers: Christian (graduated), Amaro (18 years old), Junior (9 years old), and Alex (2 years old).
The other new sophomore is Isabella from Solomon High School. She said she doesn’t miss her old school. Some of her favorite things about Southeast are how the people around her have gladly welcomed her, and they have helped her with this new transition in her life. She also included that Southeast offers more academic opportunities to learn new things and take different classes. So far, Isabella hasn’t found anything that she dislikes about Southeast. A couple things about her are that her favorite teacher is Mr. Anderson, her favorite food is Lays BBQ chips, her favorite hobby is reading, and her dream is to be a DEA Agent after highschool. She has two sisters: Juliana (8th grade), and Gabby (5 years old). Her dad is the new principal of the highschool, Mr. Owen. Some things she said that are difficult about being the principal’s daughter are things being given to her and people making assumptions about her because of who her dad is.
These two girls are excited to start the school year off here. Coming to a new school where you don’t know many people is hard but they are embracing it. Having new students at our school is a great way to expand our community and welcome new faces.
