Everybody has heard the stories of deranged and monstrous serial killers. The captivating motives that seem maniacal to the average person spark curiosity for these accounts. One such case is that of Lucy Letby, who has now been convicted of seven counts of murder and six more attempted. Lucy Letby was a certified nurse in the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital from 2011 to 2016, working for another two years in a clerical role. When no one was around, she would sneak into the lab, get “ medicine “ for the babies, and put air into their bloodstream, suffocating the children. The parents did not know what went wrong during the night. Lucy Letby was sentenced to life in prison. When parents heard this, they finally had justice for what she had done to their babies.
Lucy Letby had murdered multiple children at once. One was a set of triplets (with two dying), and one was a set of twins (with one dying). Parents want Lucy Letby to live long in prison for what she had done to their children. Letby refused to go to her trial on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, and she was sentenced to life in prison. Lucy Letby was arrested several times before being convicted of murder.
The prosecution put forth one primary motive for the crimes: Letby was infatuated with a male coworker, whom she sought pity after the deaths. She was infatuated with a male doctor and wanted his attention. So, by killing these babies, she would be the center of attention and get the sympathy of this male doctor. He can not be named after he gave oath. He gave a speech about Lucy Letby, and the evidence from him put Letby in tears. She was heading towards the back door. When coming to the witness box, she said she loved the doctor as a “ trusted friend” but didn’t romantically love him. She denies claiming she had an “ infatuated” feeling for the doctor.
Despite the stacked evidence against her, many of Letby’s friends have stood by her throughout the case. Many don’t believe that Letby is capable of such a heinous act. A psychologist came to see her friends to understand why they were still standing by her side even though, in the trial, she was found guilty of each charge. One of her friends said, “Unless Lucy turned around and said, ‘I’m guilty.’ I will never believe that she is guilty.” Her friends see her as a soft and compassionate friend, not the serial killer she has been proven to be. They say it’s “ out of character “ for her to harm and kill babies.
In drawing to a close, Lucy Letby has committed heinous acts beyond what anyone could imagine. To willingly suffocate and kill babies for a motive that remains in the air is something nobody can justify. With many of life’s uncertainties, we can all be sure that putting this lady to justice, never to see the outside world again, is the only acceptable conclusion for the parents of the many unfortunate victims.
