Southeast of Saline has many different clubs for students to join. Science Club, TRUST, Art Club, The Board Game Club, and many more. All of these clubs have been here for years, but this year, we’ve introduced a new one. This club is called the Trojan Literacy Club, or TLC for short. This club is for anyone who loves to write or anyone who is interested in getting better at writing.
So what exactly does the Trojan Literacy Club do? At the beginning of each month, we put together a meeting for students to attend. During this meeting, we give the floor to the members to share something they wrote from the previous month. While not required, it is heavily encouraged. This will help students not to be afraid of sharing their writings and help them to understand that their work does not necessarily have to be “good” to be interesting or fun to listen to. Besides, the club is all about helping kids get better at writing. After we share, we will introduce the new prompts for the month. We will try to keep each prompt new and unique, while also trying to encourage story writing. Finally, at the end of the year, we will compile all the writings submitted and create a large anthology for students and parents to buy. All proceeds will go right back to the school.
Currently, the President of the club is Maddy Abell and the Vice President is Aryana Burge, and we’ve asked Mrs. Miller to be our sponsor! We are super excited to start hearing more unique stories from our peers. We plan to have the next meeting on November 16th, at three o’clock in Mrs. Miller’s room. I highly encourage anyone interested to come stop by!
