The SES Student Council has already been off to a busy start this year. They started off the year with the Back to School Bash, the annual car wash, the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally, the Homecoming Dance, and What Would you do for a Klondike Bar?
The Back to School Bash has been at the school in the past. Last year, STUCO hosted it in the parking lot and had a bounce house, food, and several yard games. They did this after practices one day during the week, and it had a good turn out. This year they decided to change it up and have it at Lakeside. There was food and games on top of swimming. There wasn’t as big of a turn out as the one last year, but there was a good amount of people that showed up. A new activity that followed that was the Homecoming Parade. The Homecoming Parade lasted a whole week this year. There were usual activities done like dressing up for Spirit Week and showing videos of the Homecoming candidates as they’ve grown up. Before the day of the Homecoming football game, there was a parade organized in Gypsum. Several cars, floats, and people were involved in the parade. The candidates got to ride in vintage cars, sports teams and clubs got to make floats, and other sponsors got to drive through the parade. Following the parade, there was a pep rally at the Gypsum park.
The Homecoming parade was enjoyed by several people of all ages. To add on top of the Student Council’s new events, the one for November is called, What Would you do for a Klondike Bar? This challenge goes on every Thursday during November at lunch. The STUCO President, Lexi Jacobson, and the Vice President, Brielle Ptacek, are in charge of running the activity. They have a wheel that each participant spins. The dare that the person lands on is what they have to do if they want to get a Klondike Bar. If they don’t complete what they spun, then they don’t get a Klondike Bar. Some of the dares include: griddying around the lunch room, eating a whip cream pie, doing five cartwheels, getting fake tattoos, coloring a piece of your hair, breakdancing, getting a fake mustache drawn on you, and several other dares. There has been a good amount of success and participation with this every Thursday.
The Student Council has kept itselfbusy by planning all of these events and activities to keep the student body busy. While we are approaching the halfway point of the school year, STUCO still has big plans and ideas. As the year continues, the council continues to try to make a difference and help the students at Southeast.
