Rumor has it that sometime during the 1950s near Gypsum Kansas, seven teenagers died while driving down a local road. This road is Donmyer Road, also known as “The Devil’s Washboard.” These seven teenagers wanted to go for a small joyride on the night of the day they died. Such events ALWAYS have to have some kind of dare, the one here was just how fast they could fly over the hills. The group made it over the first few hills with no problem, but on the third hill, they slammed right into the bank of the road, killing all seven passengers (“Kansas’ haunted places”).
The police that had arrived at the tragic scene left the totaled car there, keeping it as a symbol to take Donmyer Road carefully and to not drive recklessly, for it could bring heavy consequences. According to the Salina Journal, some people say that when they drive down Donmyer Road near the wreck site at night, they can hear the pained screams and cries of the seven teens who had died. If this is true, then is it possible that something beyond this world may have caused the incident in the first place? Did the driver of the car just decide to drive recklessly or did something else happen to cause the car to wreck on the third hill?
The three hills of this road are said to be one of the most haunted places in Kansas. If the seven teens still reside at the place where their spirit candles had been blown out, this may mean that they feel some strong emotion towards the place, and something is keeping them there to warn others of the tragedies that occurred. Whether or not the area is actually a site of paranormal activity does not detour the standing fact that this road is not meant to be played with. Teens that drive in this area or any dirt road for this matter should drive safely, and make sure they get to know and understand the road before they decide to go on a joyride down it. Not all dirt roads are the same and as the incident proves, many dirt roads can hide serious dangers away from the human eye.
Drive safely, and keep the lives of those seven teenagers in mind whenever you feel like doing something really dangerous for the sake of fun. Always stay aware of your surroundings and correct yourself when your gut tells you that you may be doing something wrong.
