November 15, 2023, 7 freshmen from Mrs Pettys Agriscience class, Scarlett McQuillan, Regan Duran, Alyssa Lippold, Casson Klover, Lyrik Lilley, Eli Olander, Thomas Torres McBride all went to a parlaw. Our freshmen parlaw team only had a week of practice. During our practices we had complications but we worked it out and worked hard. We had gotten our jackets and offical dress and all of us were so excited. Soon the day arrived and we got up early to get to the school to practice and go over our parts. We all studied hard for the tests and put in all our effort.
As we arrived at the leadership school and we were the first team to go in, we were all so nervous because all the other teams had months of practice but we only had a week. Our first round was rough, we had messed up some of our parts but pulled it through during the end. After our debate we were disappointed because we thought we didn’t make it to finals. We waited an hour to get results to see if we were in the finals. Soon we were all sitting outside when we heard we made it to finals and we were all so excited. There were 9 schools there and only 4 of those schools made it to the finals. We were the first team to go and debate again. We put in all our effort, and worked as hard as we could during that debate. Our opening ceremonies were great and we all did our parts perfect. During the actual debate we had messed up a little but we didn’t let that bring us down.
We finished our debate and waited hours and hours for the results. We decided to leave and go eat before we found out the results. We had gotten done eating and getting into the van when Mrs. Petty had gotten a text of the finalists, she soon started listing off the places and when Mrs. Petty said we got first place and we were all filled with excitement. We were proud of ourselves and each other. We now are waiting for state in May!
