On December 13th of last year, Ali Richardson went to the school board and proposed an idea to start an SES swim team. The school board agreed, and as of March 24th of this year, the season has officially started.

The first meet of the season took place on Thursday, March 24th in Topeka. Ali competed in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in second place, and the 100-yard butterfly finishing in first place with a state-qualifying time.

Her time for the 50-yard freestyle was 26.93, only .09 seconds away from qualifying her for a state time in that event. Her 100-yard butterfly time was 104.54. She ended up surpassing the state qualifying time in that event by over three seconds.

Ali’s next swim meet will be on Thursday, March 31st in Topeka. At this meet she will be competing in the 50-yard freestyle again in order to try to qualify for the state time, and the 100-yard freestyle for the first time this season.

Throughout the season, Ali will compete in ten regular-season swim meets as well as the state meet in Lenexa, Kansas on Friday, May 20th. At the state meet, she will compete against swimmers from 1A-5A schools, and will be competing in two events.
