The Southeast of Saline Boys Basketball Team finished the 2022-2023 season on a high note. The boys went through the entire regular season only suffering one loss to 4A state champs, Hugoton. The Trojans were off to a very strong start when they played their first game against the Hesston Swathers. The SES Boys played incredibly well, and stuck to that same energy all throughout the season. They went undefeated into Christmas break, and came out of break with the same fire. Around the midpoint of the season, the Trojans headed to the Sterling Invitational. They played some tough teams, but were able to win two games, which allowed them to advance to the championship. They battled against Hugoton for 32 minutes straight but were unable to finish with the win. The Trojans went home with a second-place plaque, and continued working to improve as they knew the season was far from over. The SES boys basketball team went undefeated in league, and won the title for the second year in a row. The boys kept on winning all the way through sub-state, where they played two very skilled teams: Russell and Beloit. The Trojans were able to secure the sub-state championship win, which sent them on a trip to state in Hutchinson. The boys were off to a great start by securing their first win vs their opponent, the Perry Lecompton Kaws. The next day, the Trojans played against the Hesston Swathers for the second time this season. The boys fell short in that game, which sent them to play for 3rd and 4th in their final game of the season. Southeast was the #2 seed in the state tournament, and their opponent, the Galena Bulldogs were the #1 seed. Everyone knew that it was not going to be an easy game, but the players and fans showed up, and the boys were able to earn 3rd place at state. It may not have been the finish that the boys had expected of themselves, but they were held to very high standards all year and they should know that everyone is beyond proud of the work that they put in to make it such a fun team to watch this season.
