During this time of year, one question starts running through a lot of people’s minds, “When is it ‘too early’ for Christmas?” At least I know that this question is one that is frequently in my mind as the year reaches the end of October. In my opinion, Christmas is the best time of year, and it should start as early as possible. There are so many amazing things that come with Christmas time, including music, decorations, hot chocolate, and so many things that just make my heart fill with excitement. 

I have always grown up in a household where the Christmas decorations were always up on November 1st. When I would get off the bus from school, I would know that I would come home to a house where the Christmas tree is lit and “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is playing throughout the house. There are multiple things that are positive about starting your Christmas season early, like extending the season, reducing the stress of having to put up decorations, and just boosting overall happiness. 

I know a lot of families who think that Christmas time can’t start until Thanksgiving is over, but I believe that Thanksgiving is just a little break in the Christmas season. There are some advantages to waiting until after Thanksgiving to start decorating for the holiday season. One big one is that people feel as if decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving can overshadow the holiday, so waiting to decorate means that Thanksgiving also gets the attention.

Theme parks such as Disney start their holiday festivities on November 1st, while others like Universal start decorating and celebrating mid-November, after all their Halloween celebrations are over. 

I am, and always will be, the kind of person who has my decorations up by November 1st. Christmas is my favorite time of the year, and it always makes me happy when it is time to hang the lights and put up the tree. One of my favorite things to do is hang ornaments on the tree while watching The Santa Clause and drinking hot chocolate. As soon as the weather starts to get cold, and we start making a fire, I know that the Christmas season is about to begin. Anyway that you choose to celebrate the holiday season, just remember the real reason for the season! Happy holidays!
